Anybody with type 1 or 2 diabetes I can ask a few questions?

(2 posts)
  1. Yes, Mothers side of the family tree.
Type 2, adult onset. Which recent A1C's indicate is no longer controllable with oral medication.
    February 1991
Blood test during a yearly DOT physical They were checking for drugs and found sugar. lol
I have slight neuropathy in the hands and feet, resulting in a tingling numbness when sugar levels rise.
Maintain a constant weight, 1500 calorie a day diet, don't ride if I can walk, maintain a fairly regular gym routine. 1000mg of Glucophage, 20mg of Glipizide a day. And now 3 units of a long acting insulin.

It frustrating that I've done all the things suggested to control this disease and it always has a counter move. But, I'm more physically active than and in better shape than 75% of my friends. Simply put I have a chronic disease that statistics say will kill me. I don't take it lightly .

yes, my father has it, my great grandmother on his side had it and on my mothers side an aunty and a cousin, all type one

what type of diabetes do you have?
    type one

How long ago were you diagnosed with the disease?
    four years ago

How did you first find out you have diabetes?
My father noticed the symptoms and tested my blood sugar twas rdiculously high that the blood sugar test meter just read HI

What symptoms, if any do you have?
Extreme thrist caused by dehydration thanks to the keytones which resulted in my peeing all the time like waking up at least five times a night to go to the bathroom. Also extreme weightloss, i am 163cm tall became a weight of just 38kg, that made me extremely tired and exhausted all the ime, really cold, got bruises really easily that took ages to go away because i was so skinny.

What do you have to do to control your diabetes (e.g. insulin, medications, exercise, diet)?
Insulins injections a minimum of 4 times a day (when i eat and long acting glargine insulin), also less sugar in my diet, minimum of 1.5 hours of exercise a day.

How else does diabetes affect your day-to-day life?
not very much at all, keeps me healthy if i feel like having something a little naughty like a cookie or two, mabye lollies of icecream with friends i just take a little more insulin to compensatie, and make healthier choices for me like sweetner instead of sugar and sugar free foods if possible. not very difficult at all.
