Your glucose level for fasting is smack in the middle of the normal range( 80 to 120).

A reading of 106 (assuming that it's accurate) is slightly high for a fasting glucose reading. The usual recommendation is 100 or less for a fasting level (assuming no food for 10-12 hours).

However, it sounds like you're still learning to use the meter, so I wouldn't worry after one test. Diabetics can have readings well above 125!

If you try it again and it's still above 100, and you haven't eaten overnight, you might work with your diet by cutting things like refined carbs and sodas for a few weeks. Then see if the numbers fall below 100.

If not, you might talk to a doctor. If there is a family history, or issues of weight, you might need to make more lifestyle changes.

(See below for more detailed info.)

    I hope that helps!

You couldn't ask for a better blood sugar. 106 is perfectly in range.
But try not to check your blood sugar if you don't have to. You'll drive yourself insane eventually, making sure every reading is in range.

the only way to see if the meter you have is accurate is to get your doctor to order you a blood draw at the labs. When they do the blood draw test with your meter then compare the numbers when you get your results sheet back.

I have one meter that is 40 mg/dL off what the labs readings are!!!

If you are using one of the more accurate meters, get thee to the doctors office for further testing as that is a bit on the high side.

No, it is not normal. You need to have test done with a competent doctor. Heres why :::
    Normal Fasting Blood Sugar
A normal fasting blood sugar (which is also the blood sugar a normal person will see right before a meal) is:

    83 mg/dl (4.6 mmol/L) or less.

Many normal people have fasting blood sugars in the mid and high 70 mg/dl (3.9 mmol/L) range.

Though most doctors will tell you any fasting blood sugar under 100 mg/dl (5.6 mmol/L) is "normal", there are several studies that suggest that testing with a fasting blood sugar in the mid 90 mg/dl (5 mmol/L) range often predicts diabetes that is diagnosed a decade later.

You are in the pre-diabetes range. Contrary to whats others say.I would venture to say that some damage to your body has already taken place. Your post meal numbers probably quite high. Why don't you check it and see. Here again are the numbers::
    Post-Meal Blood Sugar (Postprandial)
Independent of what they eat, the blood sugar of a truly normal person is:

    Under 120 mg/dl (6.6 mmol/L) one or two hours after a meal.

Most normal people are under 100 mg/dl (5.5 mmol/L) two hours after eating.

Now heres what you need to do. Start on a low glycemic diet. By the way a great way to eat for the whole family.http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm It lists 2,480 foods and their index and load. This is important because it helps keep sugar level at a more even level. I am serious about your numbers. Most people , mostly doctors fault, don't treat this until its really advanced. Start now to mabye avoid more damage and possibly stave off the use of medicines later.

Now for the second thing to address. Yes , EXERCISE> I know you hate to hear it , but its really important. It lowers blood sugar , lowers Cholesterol , and lowers Blood Pressure. Walking is fine . Nordic Walking is Great !!!It uses 46% more energy than plain walking. Without you noticing the extra output of energy. I use plain old wooden sticks. Google it for more info.
If you ever did anything good for yourself, please listen to what I have said to you. I wish you a long life , free from this dreaded disease, Diabetes.
