Can analgesic throat lozenges cause tongue sores/burns?

I've had a sore throat for a couple of days, and have been using analgesic lozenges with benzocaine 6 mg and menthol 10 mg (the Cepacol/Chloraseptic type). I noticed that my tongue has developed some sore spots. I'm wondering if the lozenges could have caused this, and if anyone knows treatment for it. I have tried sugar, ice and other cold things, and none have relieved the pain.
