If I don't take blood pressure pills it goes up to over 185/??. I ran out of the stronger kind, so took a slightly weaker kind and went to get checked and it was way over the hypertension level at 167/?? so what I'm asking is.... (I did get some stronger but have to get checked again). What I need to know is about the diet. I have been eating lots of cheese and nuts (mostly unsalted or lightly salted), and use only sea salt. I eat balanced meals with lots of veges. Don't have pork except a small amount of bacon bits (no fat in it). Any suggestions and advice? Thanks.

a 167 seems a little high, that's the top number right?

avoid fatty food and reduce salt intake.

167 is still very high;considering the fact that 120
is considered too high.
Controlling salt intake is a step in the right direction;
however,watch the processed foods that you consume.
Drink plenty of water;and be aware of the fact that
diet sodas are loaded with sodium.
Caffeine is to be limited,and you may have to have
your doctor check your potassium levels.

Your high blood pressure can lead to heart disease and increases your risk of stroke.. So it is important to keep it at acceptable levels like near 120/80. If you take your blood pressure regularly and the BP is still high you must speak to your doctor. If your systolic or upper blood pressure level is 20 points over the "normal" level like 140 or above then you may need a second blood pressure medicine. Ask your doctor if Walmart carries a blood pressure medicine for $3.00 or $5.00. You can get a list from the pharmacist at Walmart. Ask the pharmacist to check the blood pressure medicines. Then ask your doctor if any of these would be suitable for you. There are about 300 medications that Walmart carries for the reduced price. Often it is a matter of your doctor writing a generic medicine rather than a higher priced drug.

The important thing is to get on the right medication and take regularly as prescribed( usually daily). Lots of cheese and nuts is not a good diet.

Yes. Add celery to your snack food list. It supposedly had a chemical to help lower blood pressure. Also, if you are not exercising that is very important too. I'd cut out the cheese (for cholesterol problems) and while the nuts are good for you, don't over do it. Sounds like you are doing a good job. Oh and trying to live as stress-free as possible works. Don't sweat the small stuff.
