my mum has been in coma for 1week now,sleeping,sleeping.. a neurologist examined her and said she is recovering but as she s old it takes time, but she responded positive to his examination..
I'm getting crazy seeing her like that, pale and not responding to me..did u see someone who woke up from coma be4?to they sleep for long time, all the time ?? and wake up as if nothing happened?
thank you, but I don't think that my mum could stay in coma for that long, she s already old,and I need a normal case, 20-40 y or 6y these r extremes I think?

It is possible to wake up from a coma, but the longer you are in a coma, the lower the chance becomes. Of all the people who wake up from comas, most do it within the first week. It is quite rare for someone in a coma for years to wake up, even though you see it in movies all the time.

When the person does wake up, they basically act as if they have been asleep for the entire time. If the neurologist says your mom is recovering then that's good news. Hopefully she'll be back to you soon in full health.

  4. Well it depends on the circumstances of what caused the coma, but yes people can wake up from a coma. Many things can cause a coma, from brain injuries to chemical imbalances in the body. It's basically just when the brain shuts itself down for awhile, many times necessary to heal the body. Sometimes doctors even deliberately put people into a drug induced coma state to assist healing. If your mothers doctor has told you that she is responding well, then trust them. They are watching her reactions to various stimulus as she begins to come around. Keep talking to her just as if she were awake. Read a book or magazine to her. Many patients have woken up and said that they heard people talking, so don't let anyone tell you that she can't hear you. I always talked to my patients when I was caring for them, whether they responded to me or not.
