Can stress effect your blood pressure tests?

I took a blood pressure test about a month and a half ago and it said I was prehypertension, I went to the doctor a few days ago and my blood pressure was perfectly normal, they even double checked. (I'm 18, female, weigh 122, and 5'7" dunno if that means anything). Do you think the machine was faulty(I took the test on a rite aid machine). Or was a maybe just more stressed at the time? If that's possible.

Thanks for any help, I'm just curious, please don't be rude. :)

Yes, it can make a big difference. The doctor should take two readings - one at the start and another at least 10 min later when you have settled down after a chat.
