The smoke from a cigarette inbeds itself into clothing and furniture. So Being too close in contact can harm, But not critically. This is mainly for infants.

second hand smoke is the smoke you inhale from the end of the cigarette without the filter. smelling it on clothes or furniture isn't going to harm you. and no hanging around people who come from homes with smokers doesn't count as second hand smoke, because there is no smoke.
