Contact lenses, glasses or laser eye treatment?

Speaker context: I've had contacts and glasses and my vision is not too bad without either, though my optometrist thinks so, and I've done a certain amount of research on laser eye treatments.

Contacts: Overall, I loved my contacts and did not stop using them by choice. Here are some:
Pros: more convenient in certain situations, like in the rain, while skiing, on roller coasters, boating. they are generally more flattering. they aren't constantly smudged like glasses. and with contacts, you can wear normal sunglasses!!!
Cons: very inconvenient in certain situations- swimming, spontaneous sleepovers or late nights (proteins build up on your lenses making them very uncomfortable and hard to see out of. this happens very very frequently if you have any sort of social life, or plan to in later years). more expensive than glasses, not even counting the solutions, harder to travel with. difficult to go camping, depending on wash facilities.

Laser Eye: you have a very high chance of having at least one negative effect, either in reduced night vision, permanent halo-effects, reduced peripheral vision, etc. however, laser eye treatment is IDEAL for people with very impacting corrections, which sounds like you. so the risks might be worth the rewards. you will probably still need corrective lenses of some type throughout your life, but the major correction will increase your convenience and safety a lot. it's fairly expensive, as you know, but both eyes would be cheaper than a decent used car, so it's all relative.

Overall, having done both contacts and glasses, I would say get both if your parents are willing to pay for both, and get laser treatment when and if you and your doctor think it's okay, if your parents are willing to pay for it. I would try not to rely solely on contacts without a set of glasses of CURRENT prescription as back-up.

So since the age of 7 ive worn glasses. My eye sight is pretty bad and when i dont wear glasses i have to get about 10cm away from something to read it.

Im 14 now and im wandering whether or not to get contact lenses or wait till im 16 or whatever age it is to get laser eye treatment. My friends got contacts but say its difficult to look after them and you might loose them or forget to take them out. And im sorta fed up with glasses. ive considered laser eye but i dont know.

    Whats the best and why?

You're 5-10 years away from being considered for laser vision correction, so stick with the glasses but feel free to see if you'd be a successful contact lens candidate.
