Contact wearers: Best long-wear contacts? Are they any safer than daily contacts?

I use fortnightly ones. I don't really like extended wear contacts - reasons being hygiene and oxygen. It is not natural to have something sitting on the eyes - let alone, having them in for that long. With something covering them, they don't get as much oxygen and this can be harmful.

Ever woken up with crusts around your eye? Imagine how dirty your eyes would be if they had something stuck in them for a long time.

So no, I don't recommend them. They should be changed regularly.

  2. I wear Bausch and Lomb Purevison Torics (for Astigmatism, but I believe you can get them not for astigmatism) they are approved for 30 days and nights and that's how long I wear them for. I've been wearing them for 3 years.

I change them once a month and put a new pair in as soon as I take the old pair out. I don't even own contact solution. If they come out of my eyes, I throw them away and put in a new pair, so it seems to me that they would be pretty clean the way I do it. I don't even notice that I sleep in them. I just go to sleep and they feel completely normal when I wake up... no extra crusty stuff or anything like I got with other crappy contacts when I slept in them.

I haven't had any eye infections or anything. My eye doctor is aware that I sleep in them and says my eyes are healthy.

There are 30 day extended wear contacts.

If you are the type of person that sometimes sleeps in their contacts, then extended wear contacts will be much safer for you, otherwise it is safer to just just remove contacts before you go to sleep.
