Copper IUD experiences? Good and bad please.?

So i had an Copper IUD inserted about a month ago. So far so good, aside from the random cramping I've had once in a while and the bleeding (I'm currently on my period right now and going through tampons like no other) I just wanted some feedback from women who have/had it I'm planning on holding out for at least 4 months before i consider taking it out if the cramps do not stop. For now I can handle them, but I paid a decent chunk of money for it, I would love to keep it in.
I've been feeling very tender in my lower abdominal area, how long does this last? I'm convinced to keep myself positive and hope for the best, I've read so many horrible stories from other women about expulsion, anemia, and perforated uterus's. Anyone have some good stories? Is there anything I can do to ease the cramps (painkillers don't seem to kick it every time). Is there anyone who's kept it in long term who can convince me it gets better after time? I've also heard about weight gain.. how is this possible if there are no hormones involved.. has anyone lost weight with it? I was on the Yasmin pill before.. any and all advice would be wonderful!
    Thanks ladies!
