This is high blood pressure, not diabetes. Diabetes is something you would be testing with a Glucose monitor not a blood pressure monitor. High blood pressure is a sign of heart problems, or artery or cholesterol problems. Either way It needs to be checked out. If left untreated it can result in heart attack or stroke.

Joe 141/79 is borderline for BP. I recommend you go to Walgreen's and buy the diabetes( $19.99) test so you can check your own glucose every morning. You might also have lots of stress and you are causing your BP to rise. I also want you to read about anxiety. Sometimes when you are afraid you have anxiety and you might think there is something wrong with you and that can cause you to be worry about your health. It will be a good idea to visit your doctor so you can express to him your fears about BP and diabetes.

Diabetes has nothing to do with blood pressure.
Diabetes is abnormally high levels of glucose (sugar) in the blood.

Sounds like you have high blood pressure. Sometimes untreated diabetes can lead to high blood pressure as a complication, but I would not worry about checking your blood sugar yourself. I would tell my dr at the appt tomorrow and see what he/she says.

That's all the symptons I had also no one that I know of in my family had it either. You should go to the doctor and get it checked out.

Only 16 is not a reason!! Lots more teens are being diagnosed than 60 yr olds! This is due to the insistance on half the food plan being "complex carbs".
But then again it could be thyroid problem! Have you considered that? Same general symptoms and it is not a respecter of age either.
You need to have a complete physical exam with blood draw. Most teens need to start doing this but their parents don't consider it necessary. We have our babies checked very carefully until they start to school, then just get the vaccinations required by law, and only take them to doctors when they are very visibly ill. When it comes to their teen years, we tend to ignore their medical health unless they become very very visibly ill.
This is why our boys are falling over dead on the football field and basketball courts. Girls complain more frequently so they go to doctor more frequently. Boys are afraid of being called "wimp" or "sissy" so say nothing at all.
I could write reams and reams on this subject! I am grandma to 4, 2 boys and 2 girls who are all teen or just out of teen years. 2 are definite subjects to be taken to doctor for physical. 1 gets physical because he does complain and is very sports oriented, and 1 who complains loudly about any headache even a very minor one and dance oriented drama queen. And yes, they are all subject to maybe getting type 2 diabetes.

Age has nothing to do with it, and there doesn't need to be any family history, either.
very important symptom is very frequent urination. VERY. And EXTREME thirst. Nausea and vomiting are common before diagnosis, as the blood sugar is uncontrolled. Stop playing guessing games and see a Doctor. Only blood testing will tell for sure.Posted 1 year ago # -
The symptoms of type 1 diabetes are often subtle, but they can become severe. They include:
Increased thirst
Increased hunger (especially after eating)
Dry mouth
Nausea and occasionally vomiting
Abdominal pain
Frequent urination
Unexplained weight loss (even though you are eating and feel hungry)
Fatigue (weak, tired feeling)
Blurred vision
Heavy, labored breathing (Kussmaul respiration)
Frequent infections of the skin, urinary tract, or vagina
Signs of an emergency with type 1 diabetes include:If your health care provider suspects type 1 diabetes, he will first check for abnormalities in your blood (high blood sugar level). In addition, he may look for glucose or ketone bodies in the urine.
There is currently no way to screen for or prevent the development of type 1 diabetes.
Talk to your family about your concerns. See your dr for more definitive tests and diagnosis. Good luck to you.
