I woke up this morning with a really bad sore throat. So I checked if I had any white spots on my throat. I didnt find any white ones on the throat, but I did find red bumps on the back of my tongue. I know that my neighbor has it, so I have a high change of getting strep throat. Does this sound like strep throat to you? Or is it something else? Yes I know, I am going to the doctors either today or tomorrow. But I would still like to have opinions! I am an 11yr old girl. Never have had strep, so I have no idea. Please- only real answers. No answers like, go ask your mom. Or go to the doctors. Becuase I already know this information. Thanks!

There are all kinds and degrees of throat infections caused by variety of germs, primarily viruses. In most cases of strep throat, you will have a high fever for several days and feel sick. The tonsils often become fiery red and swollen. The glands (lymph nodes) in the neck are swollen and sometimes tender. After a day or two, white spot or white patches may appear on the tonsils. In a strep throat there is no usually no cough or runny nose. No one here will know if you have a strep throat, because only the doctor can do a throat culture or a rapid test for streptococcus, if there is any suspicion. If the test is negative for strep, the cause is likely to be a virus, and the infection will most likely go away on its own without antibiotics.

Well when you have strep you shouldn't have a clogged or runny nose. Also your neck shouldn't really hurt either, if I were you I would have some ice cream or drink cold water, and you can aways go old fashion and have some nice warm chicken noodle soup. If nothing works go to the doctor.
