My boyfriend thinks he has a cold sore on the inside of his bottom lip. It's really big (he says he thinks there were three and they combined together to make a bigger one) and he's had it since Monday. It's not hurting him anymore and SEEMS to be getting smaller, but it's still there.
Since he had that sore, I only kiss him on the other side of the mouth and we haven't been doing any deep/french kissing since he's had it. However, I woke up this morning and when I brushed my teeth, I felt a little jab of pain. So I ran my tongue along the inner side of my lower lip, and there's a tiny bump. It's doesn't hurt just touching it and it just looks like a tiny pink bump when I saw it in the mirror.
I was looking up cold sores and found a website that says if a sore occurs on the soft tissue of the mouth, it's most likely not a cold sore, but a canker sore. BUT, it said canker sores aren't contagious. I'm kind of freaked out because I know cold sores are caused by the herpes virus and I also know that my boyfriend's hurt for a long time and he could barely eat.
Do you think I caught this sore from him? Or is it most likely something else? I know you guys aren't doctors, but a cold sore isn't really something to go to the doctor for. If it is a cold sore, what's the best treatment for it if it gets worse?
