Did I fracture or sprain my ankle? Maybe broken?

Okay, so my foot fell asleep and I got up and I just collapsed on top of my ankle and it bent backwards. I was in shock and it had immediate throbbing pain and felt numb. I was crying and couldn't stand the pain. I can't rotate or move it at all. I can walk, but not properly--I have to hobble and in no way can bend my left ankle... It hurts really badly and is feeling worse and starting to bruise. Also, a small skinny bone is sticking out on the side...but the bone is very tiny...Do you think it is broken, sprained, or...?

I'm 17.. and the only thing making me think it is not broken is that i can partially walk on it, but after i do it starts throbbing more and the bone or i can't tell if it is a bone or vein or something it is very skinny but it starts to stick out more....

I'm no doctor or anything, but maybe you pulled a muscle? I do that sometimes, and It really hurts a lot. Every once in a while I'll pull a muscle in my back... But If there's a bone sticking out, you most likely fractured it. Just an opinion, like I said I can't be sure. Hope this helps?

well ive broken my ankle once and it was a hairline fracture and i was still able to walk on it but not properly like the problems you are having i had as well i say if it is hurting you that bad then i would either go to an ER or an urgent care canter and even if it is just a sprain it is a very bad one. but if you don't want to seek medical attention right now you need to elevate it to keep the swelling down take an anti-inflamitory to help with pain/ swelling, as well as alternate heat and ice

i think that you might have sprained your ankle and broke your physis. the same thing happened to me...except someone kicked a huge rock underneath my foot and i fell and my ankle rolled and i collapsed on it. but if you heat it, ice it, heat it, and ice it, it should be fine. Just don't walk on it for the next day or two
