Do I have H1N1, the flu, or a virus?

Ok, so I live on campus (I'm a college freshman) and there has been something going around and I think I finally got it. I haven't been to the doctor, because I don't have transportation, but if I'm not feeling any better by tomorrow I am going to the nurse on campus. But I just wanted to know if this sounds like the flu or another type of virus?

I started feeling bad Sunday (Valentine's Day). My throat was hurting. By Monday, my throat and head was hurting and by yesterday I was just horrible.

As of today these are my symptoms:
    - a sore throat (with swollen lymph nodes)
    - a horrible headache (it feels like a migraine)
    - an achy back and neck (its to the point if I hold my head up for long my neck starts throbbing in pain)
    - I'm really weak and have no energy
    - a runny nose and I'm sneezing occasionally
    - little to no appetite
    - I feel nauseous after I eat (i te a Chick-Fil-A sandwhich earlier and didn't feel sick though)
    - I'm extremely sleepy/tired
    - I'm always cold, but will sometimes have random hot flashes

I've been sleeping as much as I can, but I have to attend my classes. I have also been taking 2 ibuprofen every 4 to 6 hours and drinking orange juice. But nothing seems to be helping. What do you guys think?
I'm not running a fever. And I had the menegitis sht at the beginning of this school year. It was requiered before we could start school.

Sounds like you have a virus since there is no fever or chest pain, congestion which could point to pneumonia. Viruses are more prone in campus settings. Always wash your hands after touching or handling objects. Check with your dr to get a more definitive diagnosis esp. if these symptoms don't get better.

Have you had a fever? Having a fever above 104 usually characterizes H1N1 or the common flu. It does sound a lot like a bad cold. Another thought is, since you're living on campus, it could be meningitis. Meningitis is a fast moving illness, and it's your sore neck that makes me think of that. It is surprisingly common amongst college students, but can quickly make you very, very sick. I would strongly recommend visiting the campus nurse, especially if it is free or cheap to you.

H1N1 and the flu ARE a virus.
I would go belly up with lots of water and sleep.
H1N1 and influenza in general does not ALWAYS involve puking and pooping so not pooping or puking is not very significant.
I would NOT attend classes because you will spread this to others.
go home and go to bed and get better.

  5. It sounds like the flu. When I had the flu last time, I had most of the same symptoms as you do.
It will take time to heal.

I suggest going to a doctor to see how you can get better.

  7. what about a fever? a high fever is one of the bigger symptoms of H1N1. although, it could be the regular flu or even a bad cold. but even if you go to the nurse, you have to realize there's little they can do for you. they may not even be able to give you tamiflu. the best thing IS rest and plenty of fluids (water too, not just orange juice). and talk to your teachers, i'm sure they'd understand.

H1N1 is an strain of INFLUENZA and influenza is a VIRUS. Therefore, if you have H1N1 you have contracted a virus known as influenza.
