Do Optometrists give you it in writing?

    no they are required to give you a copy of your rx. maybe they forgot, I have done that before. just go ask them for a copy of it and they should give it to you, otherwise they can get in trouble.

  2. No, the exam and the glasses are separate items, billed separately. So you are entitled to get your prescription in writing to take somewhere else. You just have to ask for it.

    Most places will give you the Rx when you pay. But not all places do it. However they are required by law to give you the prescription upon your request, no matter when (within a year, since its valid for one year). If they don't give it, just ask and say its required by law.

    The docs cant tell you where to buy glasses or contacts, but they will be sneaky in trying to "withhold" it to force you to buy it from them.

    You can take the Rx and take it anywhere glasses are made, so long as its valid.

    Yes, they are supposed to give you a written prescription. You can go ahead and ask for it.
