Does it hurt to put contacts in?

(7 posts)
  1. Hi. I've worn glasses for 2 years and I seriously hate them. I want to get contacts but I'm really nervous about them. Do they hurt? Are they a struggle or a pain? My eyes are EXTREMELY sensitive. Its hurts if I get a drop of water in them. But I hate my glasses so much and I look ugly with them. At school we had to do a thing where you dress up as a person and my peep didn't have glasses and I didn't wear them, so when I got there a boy in my class said Hi WOE! And a lot of people said that. But I'm 12 so how much are they? I need a new perscription anyway so I need to make up my mind. What should I do? And they give you one pair of contacts or do you need to change them? I'm totally confused!!
Also, I'm a girl in 6th grade. And are there any risks with them?
What if it gets stuck in my eye? And whenever something touches my eye is like surprised or something and blinks right away, what if that happens when I put it in? Also, are the contacts hard or soft? Do they squish and fold up? Do you have to form them?

Well, you should probably talk to your eye doctor about this. Is there a reason why your eyes are really sensitive? Is it actually a problem with your eyes? Could contacts harm you? Definitely ask your eye doctor questions when you go in.

Contacts are very scary to put in because you think you're going to poke your eye at first. If water hurts, contacts will probably hurt when you put them in. After you put them in, though, you shouldn't feel a thing. But you should definitely try if it's something you really want. When I got my contacts, my eye doctor put me on a trail period for them. I wore them for two weeks and then came back in to see if I liked them. You should see if your eye doctor does that, too.

There are different types of contacts. Some you change every day, some every two weeks, and some every month. Some pairs you take out every night before bed, and some pairs you can leave in for more than 30 days at a time.

Contacts can sometimes really hurt, though. You can put it on inside out, which is very irritating, or it can come out of place and get behind your eye (that HURTS, and if that ever happens, try keeping your eye closed for an hour... my pop right back into place when I did that). You can get a scratch on your contact as well, and that's painful. The majority of the time, though, you'll barely notice you're wearing contacts.

If contacts aren't you thing, just get a cuter pair of glasses! Try on a bunch of pairs, and if you have a camera phone, send pictures to your friends and ask their opinions. I personally love glasses like these: http://www.eyeglasses.com/glasses/genesis/2020.html

    Good luck!

  5. Contacts don't hurt unless you have an eye infection or something. You can't use contacts if you have an infection anyways. Always keep 1 paid of glasses just in case. Using contacts is very common. I suggest you get the kind that you toss away after a month of use. My mom used to buy one that she could use for a year but they never lasted more than 6 months because they would get full of protein and made her see blurry. Now she uses the one she tosses once a month. She paid $100 for 12 pairs. Good Luck!

No, contact lenses are not suppose to hurt you. You should go to an eye doctor, he will be able to suggest the right kind of contact lens for you. Don't worry, contact lenses are pain free there are many types of lenses out there now that you can choose according to your lifestyle and they are even affordable. If you are conscious about the way you look, then definitely go for contacts. Be sure to consult an Optometrist.

Also glasses don't necessarily have to make you look ugly. There are great a number of designer glasses available that look cool and make a fashion statement too.

So whatever choice you make, it's up to you. Good luck!

Contacts don't hurt, and they aren't hard to put in. There are no risks for people your age. They never get stuck in your eye, unless you sleep them in and keep them in over 14 hours. You get used to stuff touching your eye, and you learn not to blink. They're are both hard and soft contacts ,but you will get soft.

Your eye doctor will give you a free pair of lenses at your fitting, and teach you how to put them in and care for them.

    Good luck!
