My mom's audiologist told her that for hard wax buildup, to put a couple of drops of Hydrogen Peroxide in her ear and let it fizz for a few minutes (you'll have to lay on your side obviously) and this will soften the wax. If that's too drying or makes your ear itchy, she said to use vinegar. Hope this helps, good luck.

There are OTC ear wax removal products - that have a solution and a little syringe or tray -- I'd try that -- If the Dr. could not see your ear drum -- he has no way of knowing whether you have an infected ear or not --
I'd get a second (or better) opinion from an ENT (Ear, nose & throat Dr. ) - sounds like you Dr. completely discounted the fact that you were in pain -Posted 1 year ago # -
for wax build up you can try a procedure called candling that will remove wax build up from deep in the ear
