    Hi.
Im 14 and ever since I can remember all fruits irritated my throat, ears, nose etc....
Anyway, about 4 years ago, it got really bad, my mum took me to the doctor and he was useless, he basically laughed it off and said I'd grow out of it.
Well, now I just can't eat fruit what-so-ever which is really really annoying as i love fruit and its difficult to get my 5-a day through vegetables alone!
Even some drinks, yogurts, ice-lollies etc... are a no-go.

Really, I'd just like to know what I should do, should I go back to the doctors? If so, what should I say, I mean, he clearly isn't interested.
Is there anything I could to do improve it/stop it from happening?
Also, what is it that's causing the allergy? I had a single grape a few months back, just to see what happened cus i really really wanted one and my throat just started itching like crazy and started to swell. I took some antihistamine and it calmed it, but it was still aggravating me for a while after.

Anything you have would be really helpful, thanks!
I also become breathless with it too.

Oh + Im allergic to chlorine too, I dont know if that can have anything to do with it?

  3. I've had a look around and based on your symptoms you have OAS - Oral Allergy Syndrome. Basically, the fruit itself isn't strong enough to activate an allergic reaction. Most fruit allergies develop from people suffering from pollen allergies..this is called a cross-reaction between proteins in fresh fruits and vegetables and pollens.

There is evidence that OAS is associated with a vitamin C deficiency! This was reported in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology in 2006. In a trial, an OAS patient treated with vitamin C was asymptomatic (no symptoms!) after a month. Also, once the fruit been processed or cooked, the allergen is destroyed and it is safe to eat..apple pie. :) Check out these websites..very interesting. :)

Chlorine is a rare allergy and is classed as allergies type 4. Allergies type 4...often called hypersensitivity or delayed type of reaction takes 2 or 3 days to develop. Vitamin A, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Pantothenic Acid, Glucosamine, Antioxidants, Allergy Aid, and Quercitin can all help with allergies type 4.
