if your mate has got herpies, i dont know how to spell it...

is it contageous, on all levels or just down stairs...

i mean.. can you share a drink and that kind of thing, or not ??

    thanks
    now I am CONFUSED...

my mate has genitle herpes, and i am just wondering if this affects us sharing a drink. or for example, you wanna taste some food from the same fork or something.

is it contageous in this way ??

i dont want to be unfriendly if its not necessary, BUT, on the same note, i dont want to be silly and catch something in a divvy way!!

lots of conflicting info in the response.

    HELP...

"The only way to contract Herpes simplex virus 2 is through direct skin-to-skin contact with an infected individual" so yes, you can drink after someone and you should be fine. However, if you kiss someone with herpes on their mouth, you can catch that.

Hi i'm an accomplished doctor and have been for 35 years, during which, i have treated many a patient with herpes. I have also researched a lot into the chemical properties of herpes and contractability.
Herpes is actually not contagious, as the quack above me tried to tell you, and in fact cannot be contracted from infected people. So don't worry, you can make out with the invalid all you want and you will be fine (:

Two common types of Herpes are H simplex and H zoster. Both are contagious through contact at any level of the body.

HERPES is not contagious at all and it isn't even harmful to the infected person. You are 100% safe, believe me I am a well Respected doctor in canada and herpes is basically an urban myth. It was made up by the drug companies to make money$$$$$ you are safe my friend, you are safe.

I have read all the answers listed and they are conflicting. I know that there there are 2 types of herpes 1 and 2, mouth and genitals. I have heard that it is possible to get herpes from a person who is having an outbreak. The above 2 "doctors" say no. I would wonder then how is it caught? Maybe that is a question that could be posted on here.

Herpes is extremely contagious so I would advise having separate drinking vessels etc. In other words yes it is contagious on all levels.
