Okay, so about 8 months ago, I had a whole bunch of VERY painful little blisters near my anus and vagina. I went to the ER and they did tests and treated me for a yeast infection and my fever, etc... The tests for Herpes (which they told me I had) came back NEGATIVE...
I am starting to get those little blisters again, I now also have two little itty bitty blisters on the inside of my mouth lip.
Was the doctor wrong when they said I didn't have herpes?
    Were the tests wrong?
WHAT ELSE COULD THIS BE IF IT IS NOT HERPES?
I'm headed to the doctor (A different one) this week for MORE tests but if they are negative, what do I do?

Thanks. Just looking for some answers and piece of mind.

It sounds very much like herpes it's a good idea to get a 2nd opinion since doctors are human and mistakes can be made. My mother in law went to the same doctor for years and kept having normal pap smears but she started having a lot of pain and problems and after being told she was fine wne to another doctor turns out she had cervical cancer now this I would see more as just an honest mistake but especially if you went to an ER there are so many patients things could of gotten mixed up.

Have you tried asking all of your friends?

    Please tell me you have

  4. Yes, you do have herpes but that is not necesarilly bad. The blisters mean that it is not contagous, so it is perfectly safe to have sex.

My guess is that you were tested with a swab test when you went to the ER.

Swab tests are the right thing to do when blisters are present. If they come back positive, then not only do you know that you have HSV, but you know WHERE you have it. A blood test won't test positive until several months after you've been infected, so you can't do it when you first get symptoms. Also, it will tell you THAT you have HSV, but not where you have it (mouth vs. genitals).

The trouble with swab tests is that they have a high rate of giving false negatives - that is, the swab might not pick up enough virus to actually get a positive test, even though you actually do have HSV.

I would ask your new doctor to give you another swab test - and I would ask for a blood test. If the swab test comes back positive - there is your answer. But if it comes back negative, and the blood test comes back positive for HSV2, then I would think that you have herpes, that both swab tests were just wrong, and that you know you have herpes on your genitals (at the very least) because of the recurring herpes-like sores.

Recurring, painful genital blisters are THE classic symptom of genital herpes. I'll bet that one of the new tests will come back positive. I'm sorry.

I'm so sorry that you are having this trouble. I hope that your new doctor can help straighten things out.

The importance of knowing your STD symptoms will make you knowledgeable on the present condition of your body. STD testing is one way to know if you are really STD infected. If you want to seek advices about any STD infections and preventive measures, better confer it with a concerned health professional. Thinking about the possibility of having a sexually transmitted disease can be an embarrassing and uncomfortable thing to think and talk about. With that said though, your first priority should always be to your own well-being and the safety of your health.
