I know the obvious answer would be "get some sleep", but I'm and insomniac. I would if I could. All I have is some meds I was prescribed when I went to the ER with a bad case of the stomach virus. It's for chemo patients and it doesn't really help. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Pick up some Zofran, I was prescribed that recently when I had stomach flu. Took the nausea away completely.

You are right, you should get some sleep, although I know personally this is much easier said than done. To prevent the nausea you should eat light when you know you will not be sleeping. Soup, toast, crackers and clear soda are all good for this. Also, drink plenty of fluids. A lot of people who have trouble sleeping do not drink enough to make up for the fact that they are awake longer. You can take prescription medications for the nausea if you still end up getting it, but prescriptions come with their own list of side effects (some of which can cause hyperactivity which will cause you not to sleep even more, which can cause more nausea... see the cycle?). When you are feeling nausea, try laying down (even to read or watch TV), eating - even though this seems the opposite of what you should do - or some Pepto Bismol, which coats your stomach instantly and for most people has less severe side effects than that of prescription medications.
Have you tried talking to your doctor about the insomnia? Perhaps he can put you on a sleeping medication like Lunesta or Trazadone. If they are not suitable for you (because of your exact sleeping disorder for instance) than talk to your doc about an anti-anxiety medication like Ativan or Klonopin, which can also help for sleep, especially if you are feeling anxious about all your waking hours or how lack of sleep makes you feel. Hope you feel better soon.Posted 2 years ago #
