if you go on craigslist and search medical marijuana card, you can probably find an independent medical center that will provide one for cheap.
only issue is that there is no guarantee how legit they are.
At marijuanamedicine.com, you just have to give your information: name, number, email; they call you by the next morning. You set up an appointment with one of their centers close to your area.
When you go to the center, take a valid CA ID/DL, they need to run a check to make sure you aren't facing any drug charges. Also know your medical history, the prescription drugs you take, and the name of your regular doctor.
Once you are evaluated and everything is clear, you are good to go. You pay the fee ($150 for the first time, $100 for renewal), they take your picture, get a run through of what to do if you are ever pulled over, give u a few flyers and pamphlets and your certificate.
