Teeth sometimes hurt for a long time after root canal treatment. The reason is pressure, there is no nerve to hurt. Try pain killers as the dentist above said. If you really think there is an infection the dentist has tapping tests and hot -cold tests that wil detect this.

  3. My first thought is that the tooth may have a crack in it that is causing the problem. Did you have a crown placed after the root canal? As far as the root canal failing, usually an area of infection can be seen on the x-ray after a period of time. In earlier stages, nothing is apparent. But after 6 months you should not be having much pain. I would keep monitoring the situation. good luck.

Mine lasted about 24 hrs. That was all.
You should really get it checked out. Tell him x-rays do not show everything.

RIng your dentist. If you don't get a satisfactory answer, get a second opinion, that is, go to another dentist for his opinion. Root canal work should not be painful once your mouth has settled down after all the work done. I have no idea how long, but if it were not better within a couple of weeks after the root canal therapy, I would be demanding some answers. It is you pain. A dentist's job is to end pain.
Don't be afraid to speak up for your rights.

We can devide this pain into 2 groups. 1. A pain that begins with no reason and then settles down for a while and begins again. 2. A pain that begins right when you put pressure on your tooth, for example biting sth.
The first one usually lasts from a few hours to a week or so. But the second one may last for several weeks. By the way you should know that even if a bad therapy has been done, your tooth can not be painful by cold or heat.
At last in many cases a tooth with pulpitis or other painful problems in that side also can cause pain and you feel it in your cured tooth. it is so prevalent
