How to get water out of ear?

(12 posts)
  1. I went swimming yesterday, and i was fine when i got out of the pool but this morning i woke up and i seem to have water in my ear. i've tried hopping around and smacking my head but it's been there all day and it's really annoying coz everything i hear with that ear sounds like its coming from underwater! will the water evaporate in time, or how can i get it out?

Hold your head sideways so that the ear with the water in it is facing the ground. If that doesn't work, run a washcloth under hot water and hold it over our ear while keeping your ear facing the ground again. The heat and steam will hopefully draw the water out. Good luck!

    Try a straw.
Cotton swabs for ear wax work sometimes, but you have to tilt your head.

Stand up and look straight down at your feet. Twist your head to the right by 50-60 degrees if you have water in your left ear. Jerk your head up and down and you will start to feel the water coming out. It feels very good.

ive learned from swimming that putting water in my ear in the shower and then quickly letting it out sometimes brings the other water with it. also whipping your head forward and at the last second before you stop turn your head with the ear pointed down. do it hard but be careful not to hurt your neck.

The water will come out of your ear with time, probably within the next day. It won't hurt you to have the water in your ear for a short while. But you can try the ear drops if you don't want to wait for it to come out on its own. You can buy ear drops that remove water from the ear from any pharmacy. Or you can just use a few drops of isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol). Just put a few drops in your ear and let it sit for a minute or two, then tilt your head so the drops drain out. The water should drain out with it.

If your ear does start to hurt, then it could be a minor outer ear infection called "swimmer's ear" that is caused by water sitting in the ear for a long time. Then if the pain is too much, see a doctor for treatment

There is a way to create a suction to release the water safely and quickly. Here is a link to walk you through how...
