I don't know if I should use my inhaler or not. Any advice?

I went to the hospital around 2:30 this morning because I couldn't breathe even with my Albuterol inhaler. They said I shouldn't use it because it wasn't having good effects on me. The thing is, and I told them this, I was using it way too much. I was using it about 14 times a day - yes, I know, that's a lot. So I'm sure that's why it was having negative effects on me.
Anyways, I'm having a lot of breathing trouble. The Prednisone treatment they gave at the hospital is wearing off and my prescription for it isn't ready yet. I'm sitting here drinking black coffee with a tiny bit of milk in it because I heard it can open up the lungs. It's helping a little, but I'm still struggling to get in enough air. My inhaler is right next to me and I haven't used it since about 1:30 this morning and it's now 2:32 in the afternoon. So it's been a long time since I used it. The doctor at the hospital said that I should refrain from using it but I need help breathing.
So do you think I should take 2 puff of it right now? Will I be okay, you think?
I'm sorry this is so long, I just don't know what to do and I get really panicky when I can't breathe right; it's so scary.
    Thanks so much for answering.
Oh, I'm also purchasing a cold mist humidifier later because the doctor said it's good for when you can't breathe.
Does it really help when you're having trouble breathing. I kind of doubt that it can help.
I'm not too sure when the prescription will be ready. My mom is actually on the way to drop it off now. My breathing isn't as bad as it was earlier, but it's just a little hard.

They actually didn't put me on any of that. Just Prednisone (I need to take it once a day for 5 days) and they told me to invest in a humidifier.
I will definitely call my doctor if it worsens or doesn't get better though. The hospital did say to check in with them soon, so I will definitely do that.

How long before your prescription will be ready? If it's going to be a while, I would consider going back to the hospital, or if you're having serious trouble breathing, call 911. I would say go ahead and use it to get you through until you can get the steroids, but not 14 times a day. I'd at least call your doctor and let him/her know that you're still having trouble and that you can't get your meds yet.

If you're using albuterol 14 times a day, hopefully they've also upped your asthma meds to include a long-acting beta-agonist with or without a steroid - something like Advair or Serevent - in addition to the short-term prednisone.

EDIT: Did you go to the emergency room? If so, that's why they didn't start you on those meds (they never start people on new routine meds), but it sounds like you need a daily maintenance medication if your asthma is bad enough to have to use albuterol 14 times a day. Make an appointment with your family doc (or whoever manages your asthma) to review your meds and see if they think you should add something to help control it better. I would try to get in in the next few days before you stop the prednisone.

no dont use you inhaler because chances are you used it to many time and it will not work on you
dont drink anything "hot" the steam actually closes you lungs and make it worse.
drink something cold and drink it slowly.

I dont know why your doctor has not prescribed long acting bronchodilator (LABA) and other asthma medication to you. Its strange.
