Last week I had a filling done on a tooth that was slightly sensitivity to cold beverages. A few days after the filling was done, I began having severe pain and extreme sensitivity to cold beverages. I couldn't sleep at night and the pain felt like it was all over that side of my mouth, and along my jaw (even tho the tooth itself is on the upper part of my mouth). I went back to the dentist and he said I had a tooth infection and that I now needed a root canal. He also gave me a prescription for vicodin 5/500 and penicillin 500 mg to take 4X a day. That was 2 days ago. I have been taking my meds and as far as the vicodin, it has not been able to manage my pain!! I have been taking the max dose a day (8 tabs) every 3-4 hours...along with IBuprofren and also putting some benzocaine gel all over that side of my mouth. My pain is so severe I don't know if I should go to the ER?? My dentist is not open today and I'm not sure what to do. My whole left side of my face and mouth are now in extreme pain including a really bad headache. What would you suggest?
