I have had a yellowish discharge from my ear for the past 3 days, this is my second day on the meds and my ear is still leaking gunk. I have to keep a cotton swab in it so it doesnt leak, its gone down a little bit but HOW LONGGG will it be until it is gone. I cant stand it. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process???
Please Answer!!

First, get the q-tip out of your ear. That drainage is the infected fluid from inside your ear, draining. Evidently you had quite the infection, and from the sounds of it your eardrum has broken to allow the drainage. The last thing you need is something in the canal to act as a breeding ground for more medication. Antibiotics are wonderful things, but they are not miracles in a pill. They help the body, but they do not zero in on a specific spot to do the work. Primarily they cover your immune systems' backside to prevent other opportunistic bacteria from moving in while your immune system is busy elsewhere. The medication in your Z-pack is concentrated, and a little heavier duty than ordinary old 10 day type tablets, but it still takes time for the body to fight off an infection. Usually you will notice improvement about the third day, but it can still take the entire pack to do the job entirely. If you have as bad an infection as it sounds, you may need even more treatment to finish it all off. If the drainage is really copious, use a cotton ball, and just barely put it in the outside ear to help absorb liquid. Call your doctor and let him/her know you have leakage from the ear itself. They may want to have another look in there to make sure things are going well. The best thing you could do is take your medicine as it was prescribed, rest and eat well, and get the cotton swab out of your ear.

ask your doctor about ear drops like Ciprodex or something, that goes directly in the ear to help heal the infection. Good luck.
