I sometimes have a very irregular heart beat. It's not so much how many times my heart beats a minute that's the problem, it's more about the time frame between the beats. I feel very weak and hot and jittery and my heart will have no predictable beat. It will be like one hard beat then three soft fast ones, then a long pause and a hard one and so on. What could this be? Is it normal? I do tend to have anxiety could that be a factor? I am 24 years old.

What you are getting, in fact, are Extrasystole aka Ectopic Beats. Read on...
# Ectopic heartbeat is an irregularity of the heart rate and heart rhythm involving extra or skipped heartbeats.
# Ectopic heartbeats are small variations in an otherwise normal heartbeat that causes an irregular pulse. They may occur without an obvious cause and are usually harmless.
# Sometimes they are associated with chemical (electrolyte) problems in the blood, which need treatment. They can also happen with ischemia caused by a decrease in blood supply to the heart.
# Ectopic beats may be caused or made worse by excessive smoking, alcohol consumption, caffeine, certain medications such as stimulants, and some illicit drugs. Shun them.
# In adults, ectopic beats are common. Their causes should be investigated even if it turns out that no treatment is needed.
The ectpic is a weak beat that pumps less blood than normal. So ectopic gives marginally less blood to the brain giving your "feel very weak and hot and jittery" thing. After each ectopic beat, there is a compensatory pause which you described as 'then a long pause.' Since the ectopic is a weak beat, the next beat is stronger than normal making it the 'hard' beat.
