I don't remember what it's called but it is a fairly common skin condition. You may have it for the rest of your life, but talk to your doctor and they will recommend soaps that will keep the bumps to a minimum.

Sounds like Keratosis Pilaris better known as chicken skin. Unfortunately you will have them forever most likely they come and go mostly worse in the winter.
Try buying a loofa or buff puff at the pharmacy. An all natural oil (not baby oil) and massage the oil with the loofa in the shower every day. It helps.
Also so does drinking a lot more water and small doses of the sun. There are creams at the doctor but they really dry your skin out and so you trade one problem for another.

Bring it up to your family doctor the next time you are in for something just to be sure ! :O)

Most likely you have keratosis pilaris, which is a genetically determined disorder, in which there is inflammation surrounding the hair follicles. In this case, you want to treat both the inflammation and the resulting "spikey" hair. A product, such as AmLactin, will help with the spikey hair; and a cortisone will help with the inflammation. Because it's genetic, though, there is no cure, but only control.
