am going to the doctor to get tested, but I would like to start on a diabetic diet ASAP. What foods should I eat and which foods should I avoid? I am pretty sure my favorite foods are on the bad list...cheese, pasta, and breads are some of my favorites! Please be specific like not just veggies, but what kinds are good? I have heard corn is bad and I love corn! I have also heard canned fruits are bad. I like regular pepsi, but I have cut down to 1 a day, how much harm will one a day do? Thanks for your help!

Diabetes runs in my family so I started looking into eating better to make sure I don't get it. This website was really helpful, it has a million recipes that are really good, you can sort the recipes by how many calories or carbs or sodium ect. I also try to follow the "clean eating" method which pretty much says if what your eating didn't come from the ground and didn't have a mother it's off limits. haha. I love it. The website I use for this is the Clean Eating website http://www.eatcleandiet.com. I think you'll really like it. Good luck at your appointment!

Fruits are good for you but eat only a half or your glucose rockets (Experience). Stay away from candy, sweets, white bread, fatty meats. here is my list: 1/4 plate starch, 1/4 plate protein, 1/2 plate vegetables. 1 cup skim milk, i small fruit. Starch = bread/grain-sliced bread,1/2 bagel, dinner roll, tortilla, crackers, cereal, rice, pasta, noodles, popcorn. Starchy vegetables = potato, beans, corn, peas, lentils. Protein = MEAT= beef, chicken, turkey, pork, fish, lamb, veal. Other Proteins= eggs, cheese, cottage cheese, peanut butter, tofu. Vegetables = Green beans, broccoli, beets, cabbage, carrots, chilies, cucumber, greens, lettuce, onion, tomatoes, summer squash, nopales. Fruit = 1 small piece, 1/2 grapefruit, 1 cup berries or melon, 1/2 cup fruit juice, 1/2 cup canned fruit, 1/4 cup dried fruit.
most diabetics eat 3-4 servings of carbohydrates for each mealPosted 2 years ago # -
I'm diabetic. The number one thing you can do is educate yourself, which you have started. My first recommendation is a video from the University of California, available on You Tube by Dr Robert Lustig. He will answer your question about Pepsi. One thing he shows is why fructose is so bad. He shows that it is a toxin that poisons the liver. And he traces the epidemic of obesity and diabetes to a specific person.
From everything I've read, every person will react differently to various foods. Pasta and cheese, to me is OK. Breads, ice cream, rice are very much a no no. All sugar, syrup, agave, splenda to me are bad. I use stevia all the time with no problem.
When you are able to monitor your blood sugar, you will find out what your own limits are. Foods that are good are green leafy vegetables, cruciferous vegetables, onions, peppers, tomatoes, avocados, lemons.
Vegetables you might have to avoid or limit are potatoes, carrots, CORN.
Also, you might have to limit fruit. I avoid corn and soy because they are nearly all genetically modified and there have been no studies that show they are safe.Another excellent video is by Dr Gabriel Cousins, "Reversing Diabetes In Thirty Days". It can be watched at the second link, below.

well, the good news is, cheese is good... no sugar... eat all you want! the easiest way to explain it is to check the labels of the back of food packages. you wanna check for the carbs. also, you want to see the serving size. when i first got out of the hospital, they had me eating 45grams of carbs per meal. another thing you want to do to lower sugar is cut off the sodas. drink diet sodas because they dont have any sugar. regular sodas have loads of sugar. things like bread and pasta and tortillas have a lot of carbs and so do juices. fruits have a lot of natural sugar depending on what you like. lemons dont have much, but like i said, you want to look at the carbs. if you cant find the nutritional label, look online. you can always find it somewhere.
good luck if you go to the doctor for this. i really hope you DONT have it!Posted 2 years ago # -
