Well, they would have to have the money to invest millions into research and work hard to get grants for some of the research bill. There is a patent life of 20 years on medications, but the clock starts ticking when the clinical trials are going on. Clinical trials drag on for years before they can be approved the FDA and then sold for profit. The profitability for the original drug maker is about 9 - 12 years, depending on the length of the trials. Then, the patent expires and generic drug makers sell it for considerably less and make the money. There is a lot of research that goes nowhere and leads to no cures. So, someone would already have to be loaded to even be able to spend millions on research and trials. There are grants available for trials, too. There are limited grants available for research.
