In addition to a flu shot, should a diabetic in his late 40's also get a pneumonia shot?

I would say only if he gets frequent pneumonias. Otherwise it won't do him any good at that age.

Yes, if a diabetic can avoid an illness, it is always a good plan. Sickness can potentially wreak havoc with blood sugars.

Most of the medications for treatment of diabeetes and the condition itself leave us in an impaired immunilogical state. We should all take advantage of the Pneumonia Shots evenif we ignore the flu shots and stay home. The pneumonia shots are not frequent, about every 7 to 10 years or something like that.

If we take care not to be in crowds, love ill grandchildren, or other unhealthy practices, we really are better off without the flu shots. They only treat last years variety anyway.
