is it bad to take a shower every night?

  1. There's nothing wrong with this as far as I know. If you're dirty you should take a shower. Sometimes you can overwash yourself and your hair may be affected but it won't cause baldness it will just become fragile. Male pattern baldness is a genetic issue not an overwashing issue.

    It's advised to take a shower everyday but I would recommend that you only wash your hair evey two or three days. Maybe you should invest in a shower cap.

    Yes it's fine to shower daily. People have been doing it for years and years. It doesn't cause baldness. Baldness is caused from heredity.

    Taking a shower every night is not going to make you lose your hair. If you think it is a little dry, use a conditioner. Good for you for taking such good care of your body.

    It's fine, but it makes your hair very dry and frizzy, because it lacks natural oils. I take a shower every other day, so my hair is clean and it's not dry either.

  7. Hello:

    Rest assured, your mother's concern has absolutely no medical/factual basis.

    She's told you this perhaps because:

    1. She heard this from someone and believed it to be true, which it is not;
    2. She misheard information about a similar topic, or didn't understand it correctly;
    3. She is trying to conserve water, or save on utility costs;
    4. She is trying to save money on shampoo;
    5. She doesn't want the bathroom tied up;
    6. She has some other concern that she is not bringing up.

    Male pattern balding, and/or receding hairline, is what you're seeing on the tv program. It has nothing to do with hair washing - It's generally hereditary, and contrary to many commercial ventures that promise to "regrow" hair, there's nothing that can be done about it.

    Now - if you overbrush your hair, use tight elastics, etc, you may damage or pull out some of your hair, making it a little bit thin (not noticeably)...but it will grow back, and will not be significant. There are also elements to certain shampoos (alcohol derivatives) that can be drying to the hair....So using "natural" shampoos can help to prevent this. (I personally use Herbal Essences, which works fine, and has a nice fragrance selection.)

    In the shower, use tepid or cool water to rinse. Apply conditioner, then rinse well. Use a detangling spray (like Johnson's brand for kids) if you are prone to snarls. Pat hair dry and squeeze gently with a towel. Comb, don't brush the wet hair, Allow to air-dry whenever you can - Hair dryers do more damage than washing alone ever would (but again, it will not make you bald!)

    While it's true that hair can be shinier and a bit stronger if not washed every day, it will not harm you to shower and wash your hair once daily. I assume that you're a teenager - that's a very good reason to wash daily. Your body is going through a lot of changes, and you will notice that you sweat more, and that your skin will become more oily. When the hair becomes too oily, it can drip down to your face and back, causing break-outs of pimples. Washing daily will help prevent this.

    Please don't worry. Again, I stress that there's no basis fo this concern. Talk to her and assure her that you reseached the matter, and ask her if she has any other reasons for having said this. Perhaps you can cut down on your shower lengths, adjust the timing if it conflicts with her needing the restroom, contribute toward your shampoo/conditioner purchases, etc.

    If you are sweating excessively, it may be just due to the changes your body is going through...but talk with your doctor about it if you have an odor. There are many potential causes, and the good news is, many can be easily treated (everything from changing diet to using a prescription antipersperant.)
