My mom told me ..Friday? morning that I was allergic to chlorine while she was driving my friend and me to .. guess what.. (swim team.)
If I am allergic, then it isn't too bad. I don't break out into a rash or anything, but after I get out of the pool I start coughing and sneezing and I feel like I have a cold the rest of the day. I also find it difficult to breathe when swimming, (I take more breaths than I probably should) etc. when doing freestyle. breaststroke & butterfly are okay, you get to breathe every stroke, and backstroke is wonderful with breathing although I hate it. Maybe it's just that the chlorine is getting in my nose?

My mom thinks it's dumb that I'm asking this but I don't think I entirely believe her. She also told me that her best friend's husband, Jack, is allergic to water. He can drink it but if too much touches his skin he'll break out in hives and he has to be careful, no hot water and only certain kinds of soaps.

Wouldn't you die..? Ah, sorry. 2 questions per question, this is a little cheaty, but there you are.

    Thanks! :D

An allergy to water is extremely rare. You are probably allergic to the chlorine. I am allergic to chlorine. It makes me sneeze for 12 hours after I get out of the water. Try taking an antihistamine after you leave the pool and try to not get the water in your nose.

"Allergic to water" is ridiculous, but you just might be mildly sensitive to something in the pool, though probably not the chlorine.

Some people are allergic to perfumes and suchlike in soap, and have to use simple unperfumed soap, which is widely and cheaply available.

I think your reactions are sound. No point looking for problems.
