I saw something on a Dr. Phil TV show a few years back and was extremely disturbed by it. It was a show about human trafficking. It also went into extreme detail about how men killed women for their sexual pleasure. Then, I started seeing things that reminded me of it everywhere in popular media. Anytime I saw something that reminded me of it, I felt nauseated and faint. Then, I saw a show on lobotomy and began to feel ill anytime I read about stuff about psychological illness.

Is this a symptom of PTSD or something else?
Or would this be a symptom of OCD?
I even tried to take a class in abnormal psychology and felt sick when they started talking about people with schizophrenia. I had to drop the class because it was too upsetting to me.

So then, I started researching this stuff to better understand it. It was upsetting to me that people can get away with treating others like this. So, I wanted to create theories to help prevent the mistreatment of others.
I think popluar media increases violent behavior and the acceptance of violent behavior.
Not in me, but children under the age of 12 are not able to differentiate between make-believe and reality. The video games which are sold also contribute to violent behaviors. Have you ever seen some of the first person violent video games out on the market?

intrusive thoughts may be associated with obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, post traumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, psychosis, insomnia, or extreme sexual dysfunction.

whatever it is, you should talk to a professional. sooner is better.

there is such a thing as vicarious trauma.......and what we see on tv even if acting or pretend can effect us anyway.
that is thought , by some to be the reason for increase in violence.
but, i would say , yes, it could produce trauma......
there are somethings that are just traumatizing........years ago there was a movie with george c scott and there was a scene where it showed what they call 'snuff' movies, a women being mutilated while men sat around masturbating.........it has a very traumatizing effect........as do others.
Anyone in their right mind would be traumatized by some of this crap that goes on, and has to be stopped.

You may wish to remove it with emotional freedom techinque by gary craig, there is a free version of it at his site until he retires.
