Let me start off by giving you the facts.I am 5' 7". I weigh a huge amount of 240lbs. I was diagnosed with PCOS a couple years ago and its had alot to do with my weight gain, and not being able to get it off cause I crave all that bad stuff and now that I am so big I don't have that energy. All I want more in the world is to be a mommy, but I know thats not going to happen if I dont get this weight off. I know I will probably need to do infertility treatments that involve like injectables and such being that I did the clomid and it didnt work. But being 240lbs, kinda scared to take that next step for my health and my future baby. I dont want to have any complications now that I have waited so long.

I actually go to the doctor Wednesday and will discuss all this with her as well but just wanted to kinda see what you guys thought. I have read that a low carb diet will probably be my best bet, in losing the weight and getting rid of alof my problem area (belly) so let me know. I wanted to see if anyone had an example menu to go by, and how much you thought I could lose by June?? Let me know your thoughts, thank you!

    dieting doesn't work
you need to exercise and if you don't have the energy to exercise then start eating foods that are healthy and give you energy
you should talk to a doctor about what foods you should eat

and i hope you get a baby soon :)

A regular diet will not work for you because PCOS impairs your metabolism pretty seriously. Like many persons with an endocrine disorder that affects metabolism such as PCOS, Hypothyroidism, or Diabetes, it is best to watch the amount of carbohydrates you consume in a day. A low carb diet will indeed help you lose all that weight, and have more energy in your day. Consider a very, very low impact exercise routine, just to get you more used to activity, such as going for a walk around the block every night after dinner, etc. Some medicines that can help you with the effects of the insulin resistance and metabolism issues brought on by the PCOS are such meds mas metmorphine. Ask your Endocrinologist about this, and also ask for a Thyroid examination. Whatever carbs you do consume, make sure they are not refined carbs to excess... as they put a lot of pressure on your metabolic system.

There are various sites and forums on the internet that help offer support for women suffering with PCOS. You may want to consider one of them, and have some daily emotional support from other women also trying to have a baby. I think one of these is called Soul Cysters: http://www.soulcysters.com/.

Best of luck, and you can e-mail me about these issues any time... I have lived with this now for over 20 years. :)

I also have PCOS. They gave me metformin in 9th grade and worked like magic. I lost a lot of weight, my insulin levels went back to normal, but this was also while I was running 30 minutes at least once a day. If you don't want to use medication something else I found that helped that isn't necessarily low carb, is the low glycemic index "diet". I left some links. I hope this helps you and good luck with your PCOS.

If you have issues with weight do what I did - try acai berry. If you really want to lose weight its superfood qualities help a lot - but those same qualities also help those who are trying to bulk up. Brilliant! There's a free trial going on currently at http://filack.slimmingdietonline.info , try it, what is the worst that could happen?
