Get your ketones stix, and check them. If it says you have ketones, then you need to take insulin to get your blood sugar down and drink a lot of water, about 20 ounces an hour! Keep checking every hour until your ketones go away. If they don't go away in about four hours, call your doctor.

Take some insulin to keep your blood sugar balanced. Don't take more than what has been prescribed as it can lead to over dose or unbalanced levels (if too much is taken in). If this doesnt work then try eating some vegetables and fruit if you are type 2. if you are type 1 then you should take some insulin and keep checking your sugar level every house. if it drops then this is a good sign and there is no need for a doctor :)

The ketone alert is a built-in function of most meters. It simply means that you blood glucose to high enough that you MIGHT be passing ketones in your urine. If you have ketostix, you should test your urine and contact your doctor if they are present in a high amount. In fact, your doctor should have advised you on what to do in this case. If he/she didn't, you should call the office for more information on what to do.
