My boyfriend and I were running through the snow, and he slammed his head against a concrete wall. There's a long gash across his head right at his hairline, about two inches in length, and less than a centimeter deep. This happened about an hour ago, and the bleeding is already slowing down and clotting. And there are no signs that he has a concussion or any other serious symptoms such as nausea, vomiting or surprisingly, a headache.

We don't want to go to the hospital and I've been treating him with peroxide in the meantime. What should I do now? It is large enough to get stitched, but if it's already clotting there's really no point, especially if it's taken care of.

What else should I be looking for and doing?

there is no reason to get stitches on any wound you can cause to close with bandages. keep it clean, and don't mess it up with a bunch of junk. Use a non stick gauze pad (like telfa) and tape to keep the wound closed and clean, changing the bandage about once/ day.

If he isn't showing any symptoms, and you don't really see the need to go to the hospital then I wouldn't worry too much. However maybe he should lie down for about another hour or so but keep a watch on him. He may still slightly be in shock and symptoms may not have started. If he starts to get a headache or nausea, I would suggest taking him to the doctor. It doesn't sound as if it would need stitches because it is not very deep, however when the blood flow stops, I would suggest getting a largish bandaid with some healing ointment on it and leave it there for 1 day or so.
Also make sure he has plenty o drink and something to eat!

Don't worry it doesn't sound too bad I'm sure he will be fine xx
