Ok, about a year and a half ago I thought I caught herpes. A guy gave me oral and after looking at pictures from the night, it looked like he had a cold sore on his lip. I had two teeny tiny sores, they were like the size of a pin point and they were not near each other. I went to the dr because I was scared and they didn't happen to have any swab tests available so she gave me a blood test. The blood test was type specific and came back negative for both. I later asked her if it was reliable because I got irritated down there again with one tiny little sore. She said yes it was because the tests came back as zero for both types. Whatever that means. I don't exactly know how educated she is about herpes but do you think this test was reliable? I have had nothing since the first couple irritations and it's been over a year. Thanks for your opinions!

Blood tests are usually pretty reliable. And since you haven't had any flair up's in over a year, I would say you were good. Maybe the bumps were irritated shaved bumps, ingrown hairs, something like that.Since you don't have any bumps now, you can't go to the doctor and have a swab done, so I would take the results as being negative. But if you are still worried you can always go back to the doctor and have another test done. Hope for the best!!

Blood tests are reliable for showing up herpes, they just don't show which strain (Herpes simplex 1 cold sores or Herpes simplex 2 genital herpes).
So if your blood test is showing no herpes of any kind i would be pretty confident in saying you don't have herpes.
If it was to show up herpes in a blood test you would have to being having an outbreak at the time for them to swab, they cant swab for genital herpes unless there are lesions present.
So if you are next worried next time you have an outbreak go to another doctor for another opinion, that's if you do, because it doesn't sound like you do have herpes. If you are still worried you could always go to another doctor for a blood test, and if herpes showed up this time they would send you home with a swab kit and next time you get an outbreak they will get you to swab yourself and bring it back in and that swab would tell you for sure.
