Normal Recovery after Abdominal Surgery?

Seven days ago I had two emergency surgeries performed in my lower abdomen. The first was to remove a ruptured ovary, the second was due to internal bleeding. I ended up staying in the hospital for 5 days due the the surgeries and breathing complications. I was sent home with absolutely no information on what to expect as I recover. I'm hoping some of you can help me.

My incision is low across the pubic area, just like C-section. I feel like there is a heavy weight constantly trying to push out of my abdomen. When I stand it's even worse and also feels as though all abdominal and lower back muscles are being pulled to the front and pushed out. I also now have bruising near the incision. It is very sensitive to the touch, much like touching a sunburn. Is this normal for recovery? It's been 7 days, I though for sure I would be doing better by now. But the pain is so extreme that my husband had to get me out of the shower, I couldn't even stand for those few 5 minutes. Thoughts?

So glad to hear an update!

If the pregnancy is still progressing, I would imagine that could cause some of the pressure experienced. Bruising and pain are normal - just watch for oozing, swelling or unexpected red coming from the cut, any fevers.

You could get whats called a Belly Bandit - its recommended after c-sections, ect to help give support to the belly and surgical area. There is also a Bella Band, though its not as supportive.

Using a pillow at the surgery site to add support when you cough, laugh, stand up may help as well. Hoping for a speedy recovery!
