Hi! I'm 13 and I have to get A Boston brace 4 my scoliosis. I have a 45 degree curve so I was wondering if my brace will hurt. Also if u can post a link to what my brace will look like please do and another thing is that I get bad back pain and the doctor said that's abnormal cuz scoliosis doesn't cause pain. What do u think is causing the pain? I'm getting a MRI Thursday to find out but I want an idea of what it could be.

I discovered I had scoliosis when I was 13. Now I'm 18. I wore a brace for 2 1/2 years, and my curves were originally about 30 and 35 degrees. When I started wearing my brace, my doctor told me I'd still have a 50/50 chance of needing surgery in the end because my back was bad enough already to get surgery then if I wanted it. I don't know if you've seen a doctor, but you might be in about the same position as I was when it came to deciding between a brace or surgery, since your back is already 45 degrees.
The brace hurts some in the beginning, but it doesn't after you get used to it. In the beginning, you'll feel like you're suffocating because it's so tight, but after a couple days, it's fine. You can't bend over in the brace, since it's a hard tube of plastic, but you would get used to squatting and bending entirely in your legs if you need to get near the floor. If you do sports, you can take the brace off during practices, games, and competitions. You'll be able to do everything you do now if you have to get a brace.
Another girl with scoliosis just created this site meant for people to understand what scoliosis is and what experiences they might encounter with scoliosis. It includes a long description of her experience with her brace. If you click on the photos section near the top of the page, you'll find some albums. In one album, she has posted pictures of her brace that she's currently wearing. In the other two albums, you'll find pictures of my two old braces as well as my pre and post-op x-rays. http://scoliosisstories.webs.com/
My doctor also told me that scoliosis shouldn't cause pain, but I noticed that whenever I did 3 hour practices, I would normally have some pain in my back. Sometimes it was a small amount. Other times it was terrible. Since I got surgery a year and 3 months ago, I haven't had near as much pain. I'm not entirely convinced when people say that scoliosis doesn't cause pain. I'm with you, if it's not scoliosis, I have no idea what it could be.
