I pierced my own ear the other day, and I think it's doing pretty well but I want to be sure it doesn't get infected. I know not to use rubbing alcohol or touch it for a few days, but is there anything else I need to know about keeping it clean?
Yes, I did sterilize the needle. And I don't use the piercing studs...Does contact solution work for cleaner?

Did you use a proper piercing needle & jewelry that had been ran through an autoclave first? If not, I'd seriously consider getting a tetanus shot. Who knows what could've been on the needle..
Other than that, daily sea salt soaks or a mild soap are your best friends for the healing process. Make sure you're wearing decent jewelry as well (ear piercing studs tend to suck, so avoid wearing those).

It should be okay, as long as you sterilised the tool you pierced your ear with. Now, just maintain your ears by using hygiene strategies organised by professionals just for the purpose of keeping your new little piercing clean and healthy. :)
Number 1 way to keep your piercing clean:
Step 1 - Head to a mirror with your cotton balls and rubbing alcohol. This will help ensure you avoid rough handling and allow you to check the piercing site for irritation and redness. Place your cleaning supplies in reach while ensuring they don't fall into the sink, or onto the floor.
Step 2 - Start each cleaning session with clean hands. Wash your hands in hot, soapy water to kill harmful bacteria. Dry your hands with a clean towel. This will help reduce your chances of getting an ear infection. Consider wearing medical or surgical gloves to further reduce your infection risk.
Step 3 - Apply rubbing alcohol to a cotton ball to begin the cleaning procedure. The cotton ball should have a noticeable amount of alcohol, without being soaked. Squeeze out excess alcohol from the cotton ball before using it on your ear piercing.
Step 4 - Secure the ear to be cleaned while rubbing the cotton ball around the piercing site. Rotate the earring several times to ensure the rubbing alcohol gets inside the newly pierced hole. This also helps loosen any crusts that may be forming around the piercing site.
Step 5 - Keep track of when your ear was pierced to adjust your cleaning regimen. It takes four to six weeks before a new ear piercing will be healed. Clean your ear twice daily for the first two weeks and once daily for the next two to four weeks.Don't worry! You'll be fine! :)
