If you're talking about the "glucose, fasting" test, the standard range is 60-99 mg/dL so 70 would be normal since it's within that range, if that's what you're referring to.

the average blood sugar level is actually 80-120. but you could have had a lower than normal blood sugar because you hadn't eaten in a while. usually if you have diabetes and you are getting tested your sugars are high because of the lack of insulin your body has produced for the food you digested. 70 is nothing to worry about next time you get tested eat a meal about an hour before you go in because thats how long it takes your body to fully react to the carbs you just ate and after an hour your sugars should be at a normal level but if they are high then there is a good chance you have diabetes.

    WHat test did you take?

There are THREE major test for diabetes, and EACH has a different reading

    1) The "Finger Stick": test. This is NOT a proper tool for diagnosis! It measure just ONE reading. To test for diabetes, you need to take FOUR "finger stick" tests a day for at least 30 days. A NORMAL blood sugar reading is 80-120

    2) The A1C test. This is the State of The Art test for Diabetes. A normal reading is between 5 and 6. A reading of "70" on this test would be impossible -- even a bottle of honey (pure sugar) cannot read that high!

    3) The Glucose Tolerance Test. In this test, the doctor has you drink a very sweet liquid, then he test your blood once every 1/2 hour for about three hours. In this case the reading doesn't come back as a NUMBER,but as a graph of all the readings the doctor took. This is the "old school" test for diabetes.

From your reading,it appear that you took the "finger stick" test, which is NOT a true test for diabetes. But a reading of "70" DOES show that your blood sugar is LOWER than normal. Since it is not high, there is no reason at this time to worry about being a diabetic.
