i have Acucue oasis contact lenses and im supose to put new ones in ever 2 weeks. i can sleep in them and only take them out once a week. Well i have had these pair in for about 5 months now and i still dont see any problems in using them. I still read fine, nothing is fuzzy, and my eyes dont hurt at all.
I know your eyes need oxygen or it could get damaged but i have the best of the best for contact for being able to ''breath''
So what is the ''real'' damage i could be possibly having with keeping them in too long?
Okay then noted. A life time worth of blurriness isnt worth saving 60 every couple of months. looks like ima wear my glasses for the next couple of days :)

If I were you I would take them out and just start on a fresh pair because of the fact that the lenses are meant to be worn for 2 weeks and 2 weeks ONLY. You could be facing really bad protein build up, which could cause some damage to your precious eyes.

You're playing russian roulette with your eyes. Think of your contact lenses like a sponge; you can clean them but they're still going to absorb some things. The older they are, the more they have absorbed and the less oxygen gets through them. On top of that, you're sleeping in them for extended periods of time. Say you touched something with some bacteria on it and then touched your eye without thinking. That bacteria sticks to your contact lens and starts to grow, then you go to sleep, providing a warm, moist, and dark environment. Basically you just created a green house in your eye for that bacteria to grow. Combine that with reduced immune ability due to lack of oxygen to your cornea and you've set yourself up for a nasty infection on your cornea. We usually see that present itself as an ulcer, basically the bacteria starts eating through your cornea. If we are able to treat it quickly and it responds well to antibiotics, you'll hopefully only be left with a small scar. If you were unlucky enough for that ulcer to have been located centrally, you could be left looking through scar tissue the rest of your life. Guess what you don't see good through...scar tissue.
So, keep risking the possibility of permanently damaging your vision - is it really worth it?

Did you mean to say those lenses have not been out of your eyes for 5 months or that you are wearing the same pair for five months, taking them out to clean them once in a while? Doesn't really matter because both ways it is a bad idea. We would like patients to believe that if they don't follow our instructions exactly, their eyes will rot out of their heads. You have discovered that that is not true. Here is what will happen. The inside of your lids and your eye will develop sensitivities to the deposits or the material the lens is made out of. This may result in not being able to wear the type of material that Oasys lenses are made out of. That means no extended wear. It may even result in not being able to wear contacts at all and no prospect for LASIK. Wearing Acuvue Oasys lenses as prescribed is convenient and reasonably priced. Don't think you can go back to it if your abuse of them quits working.

You can do damage to your eyes themselves, not just the contacts. Neovascularization is a main thing that could happen.
