my 4-yr old son has two cavities. they dentist said that they are very bad and that he has a few others that are really bad too. So my wife and I admit we screwed up. Too much candy or whatever and now we have to fix the problem. The dentist said the only way is to do several root canals and that he would have to be put completely under and have actual surgery. My question is this. How dangerous is it to put a 4-yr old "under" for many hours? is it even worth the risk on something like this? thanks for any answers.

  2. I would express your legitimate concerns to the dentist. If he and his staff , including the anesthesiologist are properly trained and do many of these procedures, the risk will be very minimal. But you are right that anytime a person goes under with a general anesthetic, there is a small risk. If he were to use IV sedation, the risk would be even less. Good luck to you and your son.
