okay so today, my husband had to leave work because he was having a lot of pain in his testicles, he went to a doctor, they took a pee test (which came back normal) but then sent him to the ER to have an ultrasound done (which I thought was a little odd...), they said everything looked normal and had him do another pee test, which also came back normal. He said he was also having some pains on the left side right below the belly. This all came on fast this AM, he was just fine last night.

I did a little bit of research and it seems like he would be high risk for testicular cancer, he's white, 24, and does have low testosterone, for which he does take T. shots every other week (we have not yet found what is causing this, they are still doing tests). He did tell the doctor and hospital about that. But I also read that testicular cancer is rare, so my question is, would they have tested him for that, would they have caught it? I just still feel uneasy about this, but I am a bit of a worry-wart...
How would you feel? Should I not worry about it or do you think I am right to still be a bit worried?Does anyone have any experience?

Also, as a side note , he didn't have a primary care doctor (long story about insurance) so he went to one his boss's family goes to, so we didn't really know them, who then refered him to the nearest Banner Hospital. This is also maybe why I feel a little un-easy since I didn't know the Doctor, and I am not to fond of Banner's in general, due to multiple bad experiences with different family members at a different location though.

Does/did he have undescended testicles? If not, he is not a high risk for testicular cancer. Doctors don’t test for specific diseases they run tests and let the test lead them to a diagnosis. Testicular cancer is usually diagnosed on ultrasound, so if this is the area examined they would have seen it. The doctor did the right thing. Your husband was in acute pain and he would not be able to determine the cause from the office.

What you are describing is not usually how testicular cancer presents. There is usually painless swelling of the testicle often noticed after a shower and there is nearly always a mass felt on the testis. This sounds more like torsion. I hope he is seeing a urologist for his low testosterone. The doctors in the ER should notify him about his condition.

An ultrasound would definately show testicular cancer.

It sounds more like a testicular torsion, maybe a symptomatic or strangulated inguinal hernia, or even a problem with the ureter on that side. Remotely it could be a hematoma, a blood accumulation deep in the tissues from something rupturing and bleeding. Testicular cancer is a disease of young men, usually in their 20's. It is highly treatable and highly curable. An ultrasound would be diagnostic. A urinalysis would be very helpful as well. Low fertility is a different issue. You both sound like you need to be better informed, so talk to the doctor and get copies of the reports.
