Questions about amputation?

(2 posts)
  1. Hey, just to tell you a little bit about myself, I am sixteen years, old, and a new amputee, just below my left knee as a result of a car accident that was not my fault (thankfully). Anyways, I just have some questions if you are or know an amputee, any answers are appreciated.
    1. How long until you can use a prosthetic?
    2. Does using a prosthetic hurt?
    3. If you are athletic, does it take a long time to learn how to use one?
    4. How did you or your friends react to the news, only my parents know right now.
    5. How should I tell my friends about this?
    6. How should I tell my brother. He is in Australia, and we are really close, and were tennis buddies...how should I tell him without making it seem as bad as it is--also he is coming home in three weeks, but i can contact him via skype.
    7. As for the last month and a half of school, should I see if I can do all my work at home?
    8. When did you start to feel comfortable with going out in public?
    9. Do people treat you differently?

any tips etc. are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Elise
