root fracture, infection? please read?

About a year ago I had a root canal done. All of a sudden, within the past few days, either the tooth that had the root canal or the one next to it (they're both back molars & I'm not sure which had the root canal, honestly) hurts really bad. I haven't even been chewing on that side of my mouth the past few days because the pain is about 20x worse if I do that.

I read a post on Y!A from a dentist that said if you try & wiggle the tooth & it hurts, then it's probably a root fracture. Is this true? Does that mean I have to have the tooth removed?

Any advice is appreciated. I can't really go to the dentist anytime soon because I'm 4 hours away from home (at college), without car, & without a dentist around here who accepts my insurance. I'll be home in two and half weeks... will I be OK until then (besides the pain)?
i just found out i do not have dental coverage... so, i guess i won't be doing anything about it

Not sure if it is a fracture but you better find a dentist ASAP before the pain get too bad - you may have an infection brewing in your gums - do something soon - I waited and boy I was sorry I did

I know you can not see the doctor now, but you have to make up something because it's serious. I had a root perforation, which probably means the same as root fracture and sorry to say that but I did have to get it removed. I had had a root canal treatment on that tooth and I guess, that was a bad job done. It started just like yours. Out of a sudden I started experiencing this pain, which became worse and worse. Remember, if you have a tooth pain ( and by this I mean a real pain), it is an infection, which has to be treated with antibiotics and dental work. I was so upset to find out my tooth had to be removed.
No one will tell you for sure other than your doctor, so my advice it too see the doctor as soon as possible if you keep having pain. It does not necessarily mean tooth fracture, but maybe you need to repeat root canal tretment.
Health is much more important than anything else. Good luck!
