had the worst cold in years for me and starting to feel a little better. i've been drinking lots of fluids to try and get over it faster with the plastic water bottle i always use everyday. i'm not completely better yet but my sore throat is gone and i'm already a little disgusted to continue to drink from it. should i toss it and buy a new one? if not what cleaning method do you recommend..?

A good dish soap and really hot water should be enough to kill any germs. Since you've gotten over it, you shouldn't be able to re-catch it! If it worries you, then wash the bottle, and also wash your bedclothes and toothbrush!

Any virus that was transfered from you to the bottle could not last long before it would die as it needs a living organism (eg a person) to reproduce and survive.
If the water bottle in intended for one time use (like a bottle of Evian, Dasani, Fiji, Volvic) then it is generally a good idea to get another one.
If you are talking about the more expensive bottles with thicker plastic that are intended to be reused then it is fine to keep using it after you run is through the dishwasher or you hand wash it.
But if it discuses you go ahead and get another one.
